Advanced oncology certified nurse practitioner Carrie Tilley brings wide ranging oncology nursing expertise to her new role at CalvertHealth. She will be involved in direct patient care as well as developing the survivorship and supportive care programs. “I look forward to getting to know our patients and helping them through their treatment.”

She went on to add, “I am excited to be joining the multidisciplinary breast center and to be part of Calvert’s vision to grow its oncology services to offer a comprehensive and unique array of activities to support their patients and families.”

Tilley has 17 years of experience in medical oncology in academic, inpatient and community settings as well as private practice. During that time, she spent five years in breast oncology. Her training included rotations at the National Institutes of Health Cancer Center, Walter Reed Cancer Center and Saint Agnes Cancer Center in Baltimore.

She has a strong background in patient education. “My patients tell me I explain information in a way they can understand,” said Tilley. “This is very important. I always try to consider the patient and family perspective because it helps to identify ways we can improve care.”

Her philosophy of care focuses on working with patients as partners in their care. “I want my patients to feel heard and well taken care of when they come to see me,” she said. “I want them to feel trust in the care we as a team are providing. And when they leave, I want them to be able to tell their neighbor they are in good hands with the Cancer Center team at Calvert.”

Tilley earned her master’s in nursing from the University of Maryland School of Nursing in Baltimore in 2008, became board certified as an adult nurse practitioner in 2009 and went on to complete her Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner certification in 2016.
