Board-certified vascular surgeon Dr. Joseph Wuamett said he was drawn to vascular surgery very early in his training. Although initially attracted by the wide variety of surgeries and the minimally invasive techniques used, what he enjoys most is the incredible opportunity to develop powerful, long-lasting relationships with his patients.

Dr. Wuamett earned his medical degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He went on to complete his general surgery residency at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York and a fellowship in vascular and endovascular surgery at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Virginia.

“I have been trained in the most advanced techniques to treat diseases of the arteries and veins through medical management, minimally invasive surgery or open surgical techniques,” he said. “I am expertly trained to handle everything from a painful varicose vein to a symptomatic abdominal aortic aneurysm, as well as any complications that may arise from treatment of these problems.”

Dr. Wuamett has a strong interest in the minimally invasive and open surgical treatment of peripheral vascular disease, abdominal aortic aneurysm, dialysis access, central venous access and mediports, stenting for renovascular hypertension and mesenteric occlusive disease, carotid artery disease, deep vein thrombosis, venous insufficiency, varicose veins and spider veins. Additionally, he has extensive experience in wound care, particularly, chronic, non-healing wounds of the lower extremity.

In his practice every patient is unique. “They all have a very specific set of values, personal history and medical history that makes them different from everyone else,” he said. “The solution to a problem for one patient may be very different from what it is for another. When a patient leaves my office, I want them to feel I have been thoughtful, caring and thorough. They should be confident that I will always put their interests first.”
