Reports to: OB/GYN Medical Director

Job Summary:
The OB/GYN Nurse Practitioner uses evidence based knowledge and skills to conduct physical assessments in order to perform various procedures and provides a broad range of health care services to women in the outpatient setting. The Nurse Practitioner collaborates with multiple practices and clinical teams within Calvert Health and throughout the community. The Nurse practitioner performs preventative health assessments, screenings, immunizations and education or counseling to patients and family members.

Education:
  • Position requires a Master of Science in Nursing

Registration/Certification/Licensure:
  • Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse Practitioner License.
  • Board Certification in field of practice
  • Current CPR certification

Experience:
  • Preferred 3-5 years clinical experience as Nurse Practitioner
  • Experience should include working autonomously for an independent practice.

Other Requirements:
  • Maintains unit-specific and hospital competencies, mandatory learning, and any clinical certifications required in accordance with the Staff Education and Training policy GA-057 and/or any other department requirements.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability to provide effective clinical management and appropriate patient care under the scope of practice defined instate and national certification guidelines.
  • Demonstrates ability to manage own case load and work independently.
  • Acts in accordance with legal and ethical professional responsibilities (e.g. patient management, documentation, advance directives).
  • Demonstrates ability to prescribe appropriate drugs and dosages.
  • Demonstrates ability to process a variety of patient care situations.
  • Documents continuing education per licensure and certification requirements and clinical protocols.
  • Attends staff meetings.
  • Effectively communicates with all patient populations and staff by implementing organization-wide communication techniques as daily practice.
  • Effectively advocates for quality patient safety and satisfaction as daily practice.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. A member in good standing of the Calvert Health Medical Staff with special interest and knowledge in Specialty/Discipline.
  2. Participates in the planning, Implementation, and evaluation of services offered at the medical center in conjunction with other appropriate quality assurance and performance improvement departments.
  3. Orders and makes referrals for screenings and diagnostic tests, interprets results, and makes appropriate follow up recommendations relative to patient's specific needs.
  4. Documents assessments, treatments and dispositions of patients and their illnesses/injuries.
  5. Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies and medications within guidelines of licensure and assesses response to therapeutic interventions.
  6. Coordinates appropriate follow-up and referral of patients when needed through a current knowledge base of available community services. Facilitates communications between staff, patient, and patient's family, when appropriate, by providing educational tools to make informed decisions.
  7. Collaborates with multiple practices and clinical teams both within the Calvert Health System and throughout the community.
  8. Assess and initiates appropriate interventions for violence, neglect and abuse, and disposition for suicide risk.
  9. Practices as a member of the interdisciplinary team to improve patient outcomes, provide effective decisions making related to medical-legal and ethical issues, and contributes to the development and review of effective standards of practice, protocols and policies.
  10. Maintains and supports expertise in nursing practices and promotes nursing contributions to health care.
  11. Designates a qualified provider to act in his or her absence.
  12. Work to resolve any medical/administrative issues on behalf of the Group, the medical staff and Calvert Health System.
  13. Provide direct patient care services in support of the strategic goals for the Group, the hospital and Calvert Health System.
  14. Participate in any other committees as assigned by the Group
  15. Provide community and staff educational programs on topics of specialty/discipline.
  16. Perform job duties in conjunction with the mission and vision of Calvert Health System
  17. Complete all aspects of job in a customer service oriented manner.
